I inherited this from my grandpa a few years back, what a fun car it was. Just another weird car I have owned, I was looking through some old pictures and this brought me back.

They were nice. HID headlights and air suspension (that always failed). Decently fast, too.

mine was pre HID, but it did have working air suspension (he replaced them like 3 times)

DOHC 32v V8, IRS. Six and three quarter tons of American Opulence, What's not to love? Just needs a Tremec Manual Transmission.

Definitive order of the Lincoln MK line (pre MKIII don't count due to not platform sharing with other Fomoco products, nor do modern MK'letters' because duh)
MKIII > MKV > MKIV > MKVIII > MKVII >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MKVI

This car has always looked sexy to me. I'd love to locate one, slam it, put a Coyote in it or something, and put some fat slicks on it...something like the attached picture.

IIRC these and the thunderbirds shared a platform. You could get a T-5 manual in them. If you dont beef up the 4.6 or drive it like an ass the T-5 out of a T-bird or stang should hold up.

I'd like to pro-touring-ify that car. One of the best American coupés of the last 20ish years IMO.

Ha. No, It's a bit of an exaggeration.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 10:20 |

yeah the VIII just had a lengthened platform from the t-birds. Would be crazy easy then

I've liked it since I was a kid.
I had the promotional VHS for the 1997 model that I sent the card in (from either a Motor Trend or Car & Driver magazine, if I recall properly).
Now, of course, I was only 5 when I did, meaning I was becoming an enthusiast at a young age.
Also ended up getting ones for the 1997 Chevrolet Prizm and 2001 Nissan Xterra, too.
Sadly, I don't have them anymore.
I do still have a promotional DVD for the 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R still. Got that at an auto show, along with some Scion promotional CDs.
But yeah, I like the Mark VIII a lot. Especially the LSC.

I like the early ones with the sweeping chrome strip across the front best. So sleek and pretty. I like this one the best though:

Yeah. I just searched YouTube, and someone actually uploaded the promo video.

I did not know that even existed, because...EUROPE!
I just became aware of its existance through some TTAC piece I read a year ago or so, and it is gorgeous! I really like its looks, though I haven't seen one in reality to this day.
Also a smooth RWD V8 tourer, what's not to like? it has personality for sure, well, everything Lincoln lacks today, though the Mk VIII was so far from perfect, it appears to me.

They never put a T-5 in an MN12, the T-5 only ever went in the Fox chassis Thunderbirds behind the 2.3L Turbo. This transmission (and the M5R2 transmissions put in the MN12) had Windsor bell housings. The transmission you want is a TR-3650 out of an S197 Mustang. That transmission has a Modular bell housing and a remote shifter that comes up in the perfect location for the MN12 console assembly.

I think they're really neat.
They're also available for ludicrously low prices, and folks with even random thoughts of these cars ought to snap up one or two before they get turned into scrap.

Here's one for one grand, seller claims it's mechanically sound, needs "cosmetic" "tlc," the pics show a door ding and some interior tearing.
